Team USA Softball Takes Silver

Team USA settles for silver in softball.

It was more of the same as the rest of the tournament for USA softball: Great pitching, great defense, poor offense. Add all that up, and it resulted in a 2-0 loss at the hands of Japan.

While Team USA had dazzling defense all night, the combination of Cat Osterman, Monica Abbott and Ally Carda couldn't keep Japan from scoring, with the Japanese softball squad putting together some timely at-bats and two-out rallies to score the only pair of runs they'd need for the game.

Unfortunately, the United States couldn't avenge its 2008 gold-medal game loss to Japan. The silver medal is the second in their past two Olympic tries, with both losses coming at the hands of the Japanese team.
